The cryptically familiar Ice Guild Kaiser recently emerged from his workshop with this purpose-built addition to the popular “Rain” series.

This recording is a product of Ice Guild Kaiser’s research into Webbed Hand’s venerable “Rain” series, and it bears structural similarities to the earliest releases, while showing the influence of later mutations. He acknowledges that, at heart, “Rain” is functional music, a remote descendent of so-called elevator music, easy listening, new age and other genres composed for relaxation and unfocused audition.

Rain is a series of conceptual tracks produced for Webbed Hand Records. Each “Rain” is a CD-length ambient recording ideal for quiet listening while meditating, writing, or going to sleep. Typically the recordings in this series are minimalistic soundscapes, with motifs played out cyclically rather than progressively, in order to induce relaxed states.

Drone Wallah is C.P. McDill’s project devoted solely to expansive drone works. This album and its predecessor were the fruits of a season of experimentation with the numerous means of creating droney sounds pleasing to the ear. It is by no means exhaustive, as there are millions of possible ways. This is just one brief period of exploration.

More work from a recording project described as “haunted head music to disturb your inner child.” Saluki Regicide was the first major project of C.P. McDill and he still considers it his primary one. It was originally most active 2003-04, then sporadically thereafter, usually in the form of collaborations and long-form works. This album signals a return to the original style of working as Saluki Regicide, and even hints at future directions.

Drone Wallah

As of today, C.P. McDill has initiated a new project called Drone Wallah, and as the first official act of this project, five of his previous drone works have been re-attributed under this new name.

These are as follows:

Other than the renaming, these recordings are unchanged. If you have the originals, you’ll only need to change the artist credit in the ID3 tags of the mp3s, and download the revised cover.

This is a good opportunity to revisit these recordings, which were well-received when first released. It’s anticipated that some new work will be forthcoming soon, most likely “Rain 2″…
