The cryptically familiar Ice Guild Kaiser recently emerged from his workshop with this purpose-built addition to the popular “Rain” series.

This recording is a product of Ice Guild Kaiser’s research into Webbed Hand’s venerable “Rain” series, and it bears structural similarities to the earliest releases, while showing the influence of later mutations. He acknowledges that, at heart, “Rain” is functional music, a remote descendent of so-called elevator music, easy listening, new age and other genres composed for relaxation and unfocused audition.

Rain is a series of conceptual tracks produced for Webbed Hand Records. Each “Rain” is a CD-length ambient recording ideal for quiet listening while meditating, writing, or going to sleep. Typically the recordings in this series are minimalistic soundscapes, with motifs played out cyclically rather than progressively, in order to induce relaxed states.

Digital Mass, anonymous artist(s) familiar to netlabel drone-ambient enthusiasts, contributes a long drone work made especially for Webbed Hand’s “Rain” series.

Rumours abound concerning the identity of the shadowy figure behind this project. Truly a rootless cosmopolitan with a wide arsenal of sound-makers at his/her disposal, it has been recently intimated that our hero may be Chilean, but this cannot be confirmed.

What is known for certain is that the means by which this recording came to be, involves a few steel-string instruments, the drones from which were coaxed by use of a most ingenious device, the EBow.

Ghosts Don’t Exist is the minimal drone project of The Ghost Between The Strings.
No music instrument nor prior recordings were used here : just cables plugged into guitar stompboxes.
Digital effects were used only during the mixing process.
