Drone Wallah is C.P. McDill’s project devoted solely to expansive drone works. This album and its predecessor were the fruits of a season of experimentation with the numerous means of creating droney sounds pleasing to the ear. It is by no means exhaustive, as there are millions of possible ways. This is just one brief period of exploration.

More work from a recording project described as “haunted head music to disturb your inner child.” Saluki Regicide was the first major project of C.P. McDill and he still considers it his primary one. It was originally most active 2003-04, then sporadically thereafter, usually in the form of collaborations and long-form works. This album signals a return to the original style of working as Saluki Regicide, and even hints at future directions.

Akashic Crow’s Nest ventures into a new stage of transmutation with this soothing alchemy-themed album.

The sound of Akashic Crow’s Nest begins with the use of an image synthesizer which turns very long photographic images into audio output, in the manner of a piano roll. The initial part of composing this music is thus designing the picture. For this latest project, the first audio output is converted to MIDI and run through a different software synthesizer, before being subjected to a battery of effects to get to the sounds you hear on this album.

Our first compilation for 2008 presents a facet of ambient music that is often overlooked in favor of the more electronic or synthesized soundscapes. Here we have an eclectic collection of works featuring a broad variety string instruments, usually but not always treated to effects. Kittenhead is the latest long-form (CD-length) production by Djinnestan, departing significantly from the Rain series and Purr. In many ways, it defies easy categorization. It is very ambient, but contains rhythms. It is dark, yet at the same time whimsical. It includes acoustic instruments and vocals, but they have been processed virtually beyond recognition. Nonetheless it is a subtle and pleasant listen.This release features vocal contributions by Aria Nadii.

Djinnestan is an ambient recording project of C.P. McDill and Aria Nadii. The audio style of Djinnestan is a blend of heavily processed acoustic recordings and often obscure samples. It is a sound art “group” that formed in 2003 as a spin-off of C.P. McDill’s Saluki Regicide, with a particular focus on tranquil and ethereal ambient textures. As of this release, the discography of Djinnestan amounts to eight releases, five of which are long-form (CD-length) ambient albums intended for play at low volumes, especially as one goes to sleep.

A 74-minute ambient track. The setting here comes across not as a fairytale forest, as in Rain 1 [wh028], rather more like an ancient abandoned city on the edge of a desert, as viewed in a grainy film. For some of more sensitive intuition, not empty at all but bustling with ghosts.
