iaiko has previously released the work “images” [wh182] on Webbed Hand. In this new work, “Kinilam” he has teamed up with Raspee. This 20-minute live session uses hums, strums, drones and tones from a variety of sources, electrical and otherwise. It begins with an intense display of feedback and distortion, then eases into a very subtle and minimalistic dialogue.

Planivaar illustrates the realm “between worlds” with this intriguing new album combining instrumental improvisations and sound collage.

About this album:

“Between Worlds” was inspired by moments of detachment from everyday life, when the mind wanders and you co-exist in the physical and the imaginary. You can walk home or have a conversation but also feel slightly removed from the experience.

Created over a number of months late at night the album blends haunted guitar, warped keyboards and quirky samples to form what is possibly the strongest Planivaar album yet.

Artist Bio:

Planivaar began in 2005 as the musical explorations of visual artist Mark Lippett. He has so far had releases on Earth Monkey Productions, Split Femur Recordings, Make Mine Music and Lost Property Productions.

Mark creates his work in isolation making music that is simultaneously dark, unsettling, nostalgic and quirky.

A glittering soundscape, this long-form generative piece by experimentalist Tim Doyle is based on fractal algorithms.

About Incarnation:
“I had about 100 candidates for names in something like 29 subcategories under some 8 main categories, and Incarnation finally won out. This is one of what I call my “hinged” pieces, where there is a profound alteration at the midpoint, often opening up the piece in some way, although it can go the other way or just sideways in some cases. In this piece it feels as though what is implicit and immanent as well as imminent actually takes flesh in the middle and strides into this world, or extrudes like ectoplasm… more in my mind like the rough beast slouching towards Bethlehem to be born. So Incarnation started feeling like exactly what I meant.” — Tim Doyle

About the Artist:
Tim Doyle was born Feb. 12, 1949 in St. Cloud, Minnesota, and spent his childhood as the oldest of 9 children in a rural setting on a heavily wooded lake.

He has been making music in one form or another since childhood, when he soloed in a performance of his piano concerto “Rhapsody #1” at age 9 in a school production, and had a band piece called “Rough Draft” performed a few years later.

He turned to jazz and blues piano in his teens, but although he studied music theory and composition, he was awarded his B.A. in mathematics, his first love. He was always intrigued by the connections between music and math, and made some early experiments at computer composition in the late sixties.

His love for jazz deepened when he discovered the Blue Note catalog at age 20, starting with Jimmy Smith, Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, Lee Morgan, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, and Bill Evans. He still plays keyboard in various styles, but has not recorded his improvised music.

In 1999, he ran across a relatively simple fractal music generative program called Musinum, created by Dr. Lars Kindermann in Germany, who left it available as freeware and then moved on to other projects. Most of the sample music created by Musinum users was brief and (with a few notable exceptions) primitive, but the power inherent in the algorithms employed intrigued Doyle.

Many more of his recordings can be found at his last.fm page.

“una preghiera pagana

“One must prepare a comfortable seat with several cushions and embroidered covers, from all that is found in the house, like one who prepares a canopy for a bride. For the Shabbat is a queen and a bride. This is why the masters of the Mishna used to go out on the eve of Shabbat to receive her on the road, and used to say: ‘Come, O bride, come, O bride!’ And one must sing and rejoice at the table in her honor … one must receive the Lady with many lighted candles, many enjoyments, beautiful clothes, and a house embellished with many fine appointments …

About: [mikra] from Belarus recently performed live in Prague, dedicating his performance to the victims of a terrorist subway bombing in the city of Minsk on April 11, 2011. The performance was part of the “Gothic Park” festival, and took place at the Club “BIOS” on April 23.

“It pains me to write these lines, and to realize that such things occur to our people in this country. For many years under a dictatorship, we were already prepared for anything, but not to explosions which take the lives of peaceful, innocent citizens.
All have been used to the scant salaries and the high cost of housing and goods, all have been used to living in fear, used to thoughts of hopelessness under the incumbent powers, used to lawlessness and police brutality…
…and then an explosion in the underground [subway] …in rush hour. And it is clear (even to our friends in neighboring countries) whose hand is behind this business. But this changes nothing, practically, and that is terrible. Despite all this, we can’t make anything of it. But our patient and intimidated people need to trust only in changes which should occur.” — Pavel Rassolko ([mikra])

“This album is inspired in part by the exploration of new musical apps offered on the iPhone. It is primarily the result of late night experimentation without any specific idea or concept in mind beyond the creation of sound.

All soundscapes created on a MacBook Pro with Ableton Live and an arsenal of soft synths and effects via Reaktor. iPhone apps used include Runxt, Jasuto and modAxis.

Recorded in Austin, Texas, January through March, 2011.”
“The album is an intricate powerhouse of vision, both musical and psychological. Some would describe it as a process to a natural dance provoking high, Some just sit and listen.
Its a progressive blend of melodic composition, unbelievable sound design, and an IDM style rhythm that cannot be described in any real detail, other than to say, it’s designed to take you places.
It’s an epic experience, with a sense of purpose in each deliberate movement.”

As explained by the artist:
“Now it is a little about itself and about the given two-hour material. Was born and live in the city of Minsk which is capital of last dictatorial state of Europe (at present) @ Belarus. To me 34 years. It is dissolved. There is a daughter who is called by Nastya, and its voice is on ATTALLA2. There is a girlfriend with whom I want to connect all remained life. Her name is Nadya – and is present its image on a cover to music. ATTALLA2 – very personal intimate (for me) work. In it I tell about myself, by means of the primitive computer and analog old Soviet synthesizers. I haven’t dared to divide all sounding into separate parts as it is often accepted because then integrity of my history and the concept put in music would be broken. I can only advise – to perceive the given work as film viewing … a film about me, my life and my love.. Thanks for attention)))” — Pavel [mikra]

Recorded by Pavel Rassolko [mikra]
in Belarus, 2011

COTHN’s stylistically diverse music communicates dark, futuristic visions.

Download the whole album as a zip file or click here for more downloading and streaming options.

“Cult Of The Hidden Nerve, known for their music driven, electronic revelations, have delivered something different to their previous albums. Up until now, the music has been experimental and synthetic adventuring into the mind where music and psychology meet. This album, Part electonic ambience, part studio recorded band, has brought about a huge revelation in what music can be for Cult Of The Hidden Nerve, and something utterly different to the user.

“I have not been experimenting so much on this album, so much as composing with what I have already learnt about the relationship between the mind and music. Im trying to go beyond happy major chords and dark minor chords, and really grab hold of the psychological prowess music has, particularly compared to other arts…”

Whether or not you are touched by this ultra personal attempt of communication, the experience of listening to this music is undeniable. Hairs on the back of ones neck rise and fall with the ebb and flow of the melodies, trance like sensations are provoked as the rythms fall about almost effortlessly. While there is no specific feeling, the sheer affect of this music is epic, and after an intense listening, one could be forgiven for feeling a little exhausted.”
