“una preghiera pagana

“One must prepare a comfortable seat with several cushions and embroidered covers, from all that is found in the house, like one who prepares a canopy for a bride. For the Shabbat is a queen and a bride. This is why the masters of the Mishna used to go out on the eve of Shabbat to receive her on the road, and used to say: ‘Come, O bride, come, O bride!’ And one must sing and rejoice at the table in her honor … one must receive the Lady with many lighted candles, many enjoyments, beautiful clothes, and a house embellished with many fine appointments …

(while hearing from Japan)” –Marco Lucchi

“You can consider it an album of songs, some with words (just a few) and some not …an album of love songs …about how much love can say about us and our world …love as a knowledge …love as a deep, very deep, knowledge …and music the same …they say that music is emotion, sense …yes, i agree …but music is knowledge too, my better way to try to understand the world and his enigmas …it is science …and love the same

Renaissance French and English music, portuguese folk songs, Schubert’s, Mahler’s, Fauré’s, Debussy’s, Messiaen’s, Takemitsu’s, Rapp’s, & Bates’s musics guided me in this enterprise

Marco Lucchi continues his “Radure” series of conceptual releases with this fourth installment, centered on the Japanese word “iki” – a term (like the more familiar wabi-sabi) that is uniquely cultural, lacking a direct translation in our tongue. In one sense, it expresses a perception of an idealized aesthetic quality of ordinariness.

Lucchi composed a series of tracks inspired by “iki” and then recruited other artists to build onto this oeuvre with their own contributions. This release represents only a facet of that project.

Visit the download page to stream or download this album.

Track List:

Iki 7

Iki Impro 1 (with Akemi Takeya)

Iki Impro 2 (with Akemi Takeya)

Iki Impro 3 (with Akemi Takeya)

Iki Impro 4 (with Mori Chieko)

Iki Impro 5

Iki Impro 6 (with Gina Berrett)

Iki Impro 7 (with Akemi Takeya)

The Iki (with Alex Cortex & Faune)

Iki 0

The first track, “Iki 7″ is a live performance on piano by Marco Lucchi of the original Iki theme. Following this are numerous variants and interpretation performed by Lucchi and others.

“iki” is a japanese word that means detachment, grace, beauty, breath, life (and many other things…)

it is related to the geisha’s world

when i read the book by Kuki Shuzo about the “iki” i found many relations to my thoughts and feelings

so i start to compose some tracks dedicated to the “structure of the iki”, finding myself using old materials (weird tapes, piano sketches, turntables and even voice) i recorded many years ago when i first feel the wing of beauty and grace over me

then i put some of these tracks on my myspace page and contacted some artists to play with or to add original tracks

the final result is the fourth step of my “radure” project

–Marco Lucchi

About this album:

All Music by Marco Lucchi except where noted.

Webbed Hand Records presents another release of a multimedia project composed by Italian avante-garde sound artist Marco Lucchi.

Here is Marco Lucchi’s introduction:

some perfect curtains is a sort of anthology of my latest work
it shows my love for the audio scores (no only the music) of films
they are kind of movies without images (well, sometimes with images…)
and they are some very acousmatic works
they are ending or opening titles of imaginary films too
and they “promote” me as a composer of music for films to come
at the same time they lead towards another project i’m going to start
this project shall be a cover project
and will feature an ensemble playing a repertory of ambient, experimental,
non-academic contemporary music

the curtains remind me of the pythagoric and orphic attitude to sound, music and imagination
and to the matching mole’s visions by robert wyatt
–Marco Lucchi, 2006
www.musichevirtuali.org

come sono le stelle
  O uso pane
l’albero di fico

vicino al cancello

ancora sui monti
bambine bianche

come la luce
parlano i mughetti:

non le dovevi ascoltare
che siamo noi
  verde, buio,
e nome dei figli

chiave delicata
  e la cima

di figure bagnate
  sono pile

escono dal fango
      le teste
delle patate:

una coroncina
di fuochi ma viva

  quella è vento
che viene soffiata,

Here is Marco Lucchi’s introduction to Radure 3:

Being third part of the project “radure” (music and creative philosophy), is dedicated to the oltreumano theme.
Oltreumano means “beyond human” and somehow it is related to sacred.
Not an orthodox sacred, but maybe something that is beyond human in a shamanic or orphic (or maybe buddhist – the boddhisattva) way.
You must listen to – and intend – it as dialogue between this world and other possible worlds.
It is dedicated to Elémire Zolla. To his memory.

This long-form ambient piece is a collaboration of Marco Lucchi with his son, Dario. Marco handles the electronic parts, and Dario contributes improvisations on his French Horn. The work as a whole warmly illustrates the idea of “repetition with variation” as familiar motifs rotate but there are changes.

“I found an – insoluble, indefinite – ear” was recorded as it was performed. In real-time, in Marco’s home studio.

Marco describes the album as warm “like a fireplace” and suggests listening to it obliquely. Thematically this work is about the ear (you may recognize a certain sample about an ear from Blue Velvet), and a comparison is made between the french horn and the shape of the ear. The artist dedicates this work to Dale Lloyd (http://www.and-oar.org/artists_lloyd.html), a musician he admires very much.

Length: 01:15:01
Composed & Recorded by Marco Lucchi
in his home studio, December 2003

Personnel:
Marco Lucchi – electronics, samples and keyboards
with
Dario Lucchi – french horn
