Drone Wallah is a recording project of CP McDill (Saluki Regicide, Djinnestan, Akashic Crow’s Nest, Tree Helicopter) focused on long, shimmery works of drone ambient. This is the sixth release under that name.

International ensemble/collective o.e.s. (orchestra eclettica e sincretista) brings a multitude of interpretations to a composition by the eccentric avant-garde composer, Moondog.

“Moondogging” is the hommage that o.e.s. pays to the legendary figure of Moondog. o.e.s. worked on a song of his titled “Lovesong” that has a twin in an instrumental track titled “Fujiyama”. The song sings a story that is similar to the one of Tristan and Iseult or of Romeo and Juliet. a very tragic love story.

Some members of the o.e.s. collective contributes instrumental and vocal executions of the song or samples and some members contributes complete compositions or remixes of these materials.

Vocal and instrumental executions, samples and remixes contributed by Hidekazu Wakabayashi, Harold Nono, Roberto Corsini, Marco Lucchi, Giampaolo Violi, Antonio de Braga, Cometa, Eerohz, Massimo Croce, iN2Ni, Jean Montag and Steve Layton.

“SphereSlowChime” by Mystified is a subtle, meditative piece crafted using generative methods, characterized by long reverberating gong and chime sounds.

“SphereSlowChime” was derived from a piece of generative midi created in the late 1990′s by Thomas Park. The MIDI was made with fractal generation, using the geometry of a sphere for seed data. In 2009, this piece of MIDI was transformed into a WAV file, slightly edited, and then processed using a windchime effect and reverberation. Mystified would like to cite Akashic Crow’s Nest as an influence for this music. — Thomas Park

The sound of Akashic Crow’s Nest begins with the use of an image synthesizer which turns very long photographic images into audio output, in the manner of a piano roll. The initial part of composing this music is thus designing the picture. For this latest project, the first audio output is converted to MIDI and run through a different software synthesizer, before being subjected to a battery of effects to get to the sounds you hear on this album.

A STREAM OF LAVA:

If you’ve ever watched liquid trickling down-stream, you will notice that it doesn’t follow a straight-forward path. It changes direction randomly like dreams; like hallucinated thoughts pulling us away in various unconnected movements. That short, inching trickle of information will seemingly take hours of your subconscious time; yet with one fell swoop can change direction in an instant. The initial plot and story-line of your dreams are swapped sporadically for a new, more exciting destination of hallucinated thoughts.

PROCRASTINATIONS:

Dreams aren’t always subconscious sleep-scapes and dormant ideas. They can be conscious ambitions, hopes and objectives. With correct application, these can materialise into your reality. It is through procrastination that our dreams can eventually slip away as if you were clasping someone’s hand by the edge of a cliff. Drifting by into oblivion as each day passes.

C.P. McDill kicks off 2008 with a new release from Akashic Crow’s Nest. Drones, sparkles, shimmers, vague rhythms & melodies carry the listeners on a weird introspective trip. This is good headphone music.

The recordings of Akashic Crowâs Nest are created by first making a very long thin picture file that functions much like a piano roll, which is then fed into a software synthesizer which reads the picture from left to right, pixel by pixel, and translates the values into tones, adding variables such as loudness and panning based on information in the picture. The output is then treated to various digital effects such as delays and compression to give the final pieces a warmer, ambient quality.
